Victor Smialek and the Franz Woess Racing team were eager to start their first full season of open-wheel racing in the Zion F2000 and Drexler Cup at the Vallelunga Circuit in Italy. With high expectations of a season win in his class, Victor nearly achieved the goal on his first try; ultimately settling for a 2nd-in-class and 4th overall.
In his first race, Victor had to navigate a pileup and safety car which cut the race short. Despite overtaking drivers, he settled for a 5th-in-class, 13th overall finish. The second race saw Victor with a better start, battling two drivers ahead of him in a fight for third. Although he was unable to break through, he settled with a 4th place, 2nd-in-class, finish.
“First race of the year, the goal is to see where I stack up and get comfortable with the car and get to know the team. Race 1 was chaotic, [I] had a bit of an issue and had to work my way back up through the field. Race 2 was a bit better but [I] got pushed off when I tried to overtake and had to settle for fourth”.
Victor and Franz Woess Racing head to the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
